Honors Intermediate Composition
My Reflection
For the fall 2023 semester, I challenged myself by enrolling in an honors English composition class. Despite having previously taken a college English class through Indiana University during my senior year of high school, it had been two years since I last wrote a non-scientific paper. Nevertheless, I embraced the challenge and ended the semester with an impressive 96.8%.

Honors Intermediate Composition significantly broadened my perspective. I delved into diverse realms, exploring various ways of life, cultures, music, and histories. Through this journey, I developed a deeper appreciation for the profound emotional impact of literature.
For my final essay, I embarked on a research project focusing on a discourse community with which I had little familiarity. This led me to explore the experiences of parents raising children with Down syndrome. Stepping out of my comfort zone, I engaged with Facebook groups dedicated to this community, immersing myself in a wealth of new knowledge.
My exploration revealed the vibrant and supportive nature of the discourse community of parents with children who have Down syndrome. I discovered that they exhibit an exceptional level of camaraderie, readily offering support and empathy to fellow members. Their online platforms overflow with positivity and heartwarming stories. Furthermore, when seeking more in-depth discussions, parents can turn to blogs that delve into profound topics.

Overall, I gained insights into the joys and challenges of parenting a child with Down syndrome. Despite the inevitable ups and downs, the comfort lies in knowing that there exists a community of nearly 30 thousand individuals who share similar experiences and offer unwavering support.
