Starting my food blog was one of the most daunting decisions I have ever made. Prior to my second semester at UC, my most elaborate meal was a bowl of buttered noodles. This lack of experience left me questioning the quality of my dishes, both in taste and presentation. Nevertheless, I made the bold choice to launch a cooking blog.
However, creating my food blog as an honors experience pushed me to confront my insecurities, prompting me to solicit feedback from my roommates, who kindly agreed to act as my designated taste testers. Their positive reception provided the validation I needed to feel confident in myself. Without the requirement of having to share my blog at the end of my experience, I would have hesitated to publish my work.
Following the publishment of my blog, I recognized the importance of broadening my audience reach. Consequently, I expanded my presence onto Instagram. Within five weeks, my following surpassed 400! This journey has been both challenging and rewarding, reaffirming the value of seizing opportunities and pushing beyond perceived limitations.
My Reflection
So What?
When working towards publishing my blog, I often asked myself, "So what?". I was required to reach 75 hours of work to receive a credit. However, I am sure I doubled that. As someone who has been clear about their career path since the 7th grade, dedicating extensive time to something unrelated to my major or professional aspirations felt, at times, aimless.
Yet, the significance of my efforts became evident when I witnessed the impact I was having on others. Despite my initial doubts, numerous interactions with people expressing gratitude for the inspiration and assistance in meal planning have reinforced the purpose behind my endeavor. It turns out, helping others navigate cooking and discover excitement in trying new recipes holds profound meaning for me. Knowing that I contribute to others' culinary experiences makes the considerable time investment feel not only worthwhile but genuinely fulfilling.
