Pathways to Resilience
I completed a Program Planning and Implementation course as part of my Minority Health Certificate. For our Health Promotion Program Planning Project, I developed Pathways to Resilience, a program focused on improving mental health and reducing arrests and incarceration rates among at-risk Black male youth in inner cities. Below are two samples from my project.
Part #4: Implementation & Budget
The implementation plan outlines a collaborative approach involving key partners like NAMI’s “Ending the Silence” program, which brings expertise in strategy, public speaking, and mental health counseling, and the “Cooking Matters” program, which contributes skills in events planning and urban planning. Activities include forming planning committees in May 2025, identifying gaps in data from June to July 2025, and creating and distributing surveys from August to October 2025. Each activity is supported by preliminary steps, such as recruiting volunteers, assembling focus groups, reviewing existing data, and training on ethical research practices, ensuring a comprehensive and organized rollout.

Part #5 Evaluation
The project integrates formative evaluations, including youth behavior observations, focus groups, and feedback from a Youth Advisory Council, to ensure culturally relevant and effective programming. Outcome evaluations focus on increasing awareness of mental health resources, improving emotional regulation, and enhancing knowledge about the consequences of drug use, measured through participant engagement and learning assessments. Impact evaluations target sustained mental health improvements, such as reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression, and decreased rates of arrests or incarceration over two years, using validated mental health scales and criminal justice data.
